Community Spring Clean-Up in Clarence Plains

We had a very cold winter and some of us are feeling like a stick in the mud!  But, spring is here and that can all change.  It is time to rejuvenate ourselves and our community.  So get out into the sunshine and top up on your vitamin D and Serotonin levels.  Do some gardening, clean-up your yard and why not volunteer to help clean-up your community.  Then both we and the community will start to feel a lot more revitalised.

It is important to feel safe in our community.  In 2014 a Collective Framework was introduced to the Clarence Plains Community Network (a group aimed at connecting the local area service providers) and had a special meeting to see how the framework might achieve positive changes in the Clarence Plains communities of Clarendon Vale and Rokeby.  The Collective Impact Group, with the new heading of One Community Together (OCT) surveyed 113 community members to determine what issues were a main concern.  Public safety was the number one on the list of most important issues.  A number of Community Forums, World Café style, were held at the Rokeby Trust Hall to gather more information about the issues of public safety in the community.

One Community Together suggested, to have a more welcoming, attractive look and safer feel, a community clean-up should be held and therefore last year, 2015, Clarence Plains held it’s 1st Annual Community Spring Clean-Up!

On Saturday October 15th of this year, 2016, Clarence Plains will be holding it’s 2nd Annual Community Spring Clean-Up!  We are asking for as many community members as possible to get involved.  The clean-up starts at 10am at two locations; Rokeby Neighbourhood Centre, 85 Tollard Drive, Rokeby & Clarendon Vale Neighbourhood Centre, 65 Mockridge Road, Clarendon Vale.  There will be a free barbeque at both locations during the day for all of those involved.

We also encourage community to take advantage of the Clarence City Council’s Annual Hardwaste Collection; Rokeby’s hardwaste gets collected from 6am, November 15th.  Clarendon Vale’s hardwaste gets collected from 6am November 1st.  You do not need to book for this service.  You can put out large items such as furniture, mattresses, household appliances, junk and limited amount of building materials.

The Clarence Plains Spring Clean is sprucing up your community again from 10am on Saturday, 15th October 2016! Last year almost 100 people worked side by side and cleaned up public spaces in Clarendon Vale and Rokeby. Plan to be a part of it this year and bring your friends …

And we would love to have you help organise the day too. So if you would like to join the organising group, which will include identifying clean-up sites for this year, contact Matt on 1800 269 672.

Come along and help shape the community you live in!

(This is an event that has been organised by the community and for the community in conjunction with Clean Up Australia and One Community Together).
